Lesson 3. God the creator

1 1In the beginning, when God began to create the heavens and the earth, 2the earth had no form and was void; darkness was over the deep and the Spirit of God hovered over the waters.

3God said, "Let there be light"; and there was light. 4God saw that the light was good and he separated the light from the darkness. 5God called the light 'Day' and the darkness 'Night'. There was evening and there was morning; the first day.

6God¡¦8'Sky'¡¦10'Earth'¡¦'Seas'¡¦11'plants'¡¦'trees producing fruit'¡¦16'Sun'¡¦

'Moon'¡¦'stars'¡¦20'fishes'¡¦21'animals'¡¦22'birds'. God saw that it was good.

26God said, "Let us make man in our image, to our likeness. Let them rule over the fish of the sea., over the birds of the air, over the cattle, over the wild animals, and over all creeping things that crawl along the ground." 27So God created man in his image; in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them..¡¦31God saw that it was good

2 1That was the way the sky and earth were created and all their vast array. 2By the seventh day the work God had done was completed, and he rested on the seventh day from all the work he had done. 3And God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on that day he rested from all the work he had done in his creation. 4These are the successive steps in the creation of the heavens and the earth. (Gn 1,1-2,4)

Lesson 4 God with us

28 10Jacob left Beersheba and set out for Haran. 11When he reached a certain place the sun had set and he spent the night there. He took one of the stones that were there and using it as a pillow, he lay down to sleep.

12While Jacob was sleeping, he had a dream in which a ladder stood on the earth with its top reaching to heaven and on it were angels of God going up and coming down. 13And Yahweh was standing there near him and said, "I am Yahweh, the God of your father, Abraham, and the God of Isaac. The land on which you sleep, I give to you and your descendants. 14Your descendants will be numerous like the specks of dust of the earth and you will spread out to the west and the east, to the north and the south. Through you and your descendant all the nations of the earth will be blessed. 15See, I am with you and I will keep you safe wherever you go. I will bring you back to this land and not leave you until I have done what I promised." 16Jacob woke from his dream and said. "Truly Yahweh was in this place and I was not aware of it." 17He was afraid and said, "How full of awe is this place! It is nothing less than a House of God; it is the Gate to Heaven!"

18Then Jacob rose early and took the stone he had put under his head and set it up as a pillar and poured oil on the top of it. 19He named that place Bethel although before that it was called Luz. 20Then Jacob made a vow. "If Yahweh will be with me and keep me safe during this journey I am making, if he gives me bread to eat and clothes to wear, 21and if I return in peace to my father's house, then Yahweh will be my God. 22This stone which I have set up as a pillar will be God's house, and of all that you give me, I will give back a tenth."(Gn 28,10-22)

Lesson 5 God became a man

1 26In the sixth month, the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a town of Galilee called Nazareth. He was sent 27to a young virgin who was engaged to a man named Joseph, of the family of David; and the virgin's name was Mary.

28The angel came to her and said. "Rejoice, full of grace, the Lord is with you." 29Mary listened and was troubled at these words, wondering what this greeting could mean.

30But the angel said, "Do not fear, Mary, for God has looked kindly on you, 31You shall call him Jesus. 32He will be great and shall rightly be called Son of the Most High The Lord God will give him the kingdom of David, his ancestor; he will rule over the people of Jacob forever 33and his reign shall have no end."

34Then Mary said to the angel, "How can this be if I am a virgin?" 35And the angel said to her. "The Holy Spirit will come upon you and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore, the holy child to be born shall be called Son of God. 36Even your relative Elizabeth is expecting a son in her old age, although she was unable to have a child, and she is now in her sixth month. 37With God nothing is impossible. 38Then Mary said, "I am the servant of the Lord, let it be done to me as you have said." And the angel left her.(Lk 1,26-38)

2 1At that time the emperor issued a decree for a census of the whole empire to be taken 2This first census was taken while Quirinus was governor of Syria. 3Everyone had to be registered in his own town.

So the people traveled to their own cities., 4and Joseph set out from Nazareth of Galilee. As he belonged to the family of David, being a descendant of his, he went to Judas to David's town of Bethlehem 5to be registered with Mary, his wife, who was with child.

6They were in Bethlehem when the time came for her to have her child, 7and she gave birth to a son, her firstborn. She wrapped him in swaddling clothes and laid him in the manger, because there was no place for them to living room.

8There were shepherds camping in the countryside, keeping watch over their flocks by night. 9Suddenly an angel of the Lord shining around them.

As they were terrified, 10the angel said to them, "Don't bo afraid; I am here to give you good news, great joy for all the people, 11Today a Savior has been born to you in David's town; he is the Messiah and the Lord. 12Let this be a sign to you: you will find a baby wrapped in swaddling clothes and lying in a manger."

13Just then the angel was surrounded by many more angels, praising God and saying, 14"Glory to God in the highest; peace on earth for God is blessing humankind."

15When the angels had left them and gone back to heaven, the shepherds said to one another, "Let's go as far as Bethlehem and see what the Lord has made known to us." 16So they came hurriedly and found Mary and Joseph with the baby lying in the manger. (Lk 2,1-16)

2 1At that time Wise men from the east arrived in Jerusalem. 2They asked "Where is the newborn king of the Jews? We saw the rising of his star in the east and have come to honor him."

3When Herod heard this, 4he immediately called a meeting of all high ranking priests and experts of the Law and asked them where the Messiah was to be born.

5They told him, "In the town of Bethlehem, land of Judae, for this is what the prophet wrote: 6And you, Bethlehem, land of Judah, you are by no means the least among the clans of Judah, for from you will come a leader, the one who is to shepherd my people Israel."(Mica 5,1)

9The star that they had seen in the East went ahead of them and stopped over the place where the child was. 10The wise men were overjoyed. 11They went into the house and when they saw the child with Mary his mother, they knelt and worshiped him. They opened their bags and offered to him their gifts of gold, incense and myrrh. (Mt 2,1-11)

49Then Jesus said to them,

"Why were you looking for me?

Do you not know that I must be in my Father's house?"

15But Jesus answered him, "Let it be like that for now. We must do justice to God's plan." John agreed.

16As soon as he was baptized, Jesus came up from the water. At once, the heavens opened and he saw the Spirit of god come down like a dove and rest upon him. 17At the same time a voice from heaven said,

Lesson 7 Jesus, Good News

Mission of Jesus (Lk 4,16-22)

4 16When Jesus came to Nazareth where he had been brought up, he entered the synagogue on the sabbath as he usually did. 17He stood up to read and they handed him the book of the prophet Isaiah.

Jesus then unrolled the scroll and found the place where it is written:

18"The Spirit of the Lord is upon me.

He has anointed me to bring good news to the poor,

to proclaim liberty to captives

and new sight to the blind;

to free the oppressed

19and announce the Lord's year of mercy."(Isa 61,1-2)

21"Today these prophetic words come true even as you listen"

Jesus and Zaccheus (Lk 19,1-10)

19 1When Jesus entered Jericho and was going through the city, 2a man named Zaccheus was there. He was a tax collector and a wealthy man. 3He wanted to see what Jesus was like, but he was a short man and could not see because of the crowd. 4So he ran ahead and climbed up a sycamore tree. From there he would be able to see Jesus who had to pass that way. 5When Jesus came to the place, he looked up and said to him, "Zaccheus, come down quickly for I must stay at your house today." 6So Zaccheus hurried down and received him joyfully.

7All the people who saw it began to grumble and said. "He has gone to the house of a sinner as a guest." 8But Zaccheus spoke to Jesus, "The half of my goods, Lord, I give to the poor., and if I have cheated anyone, I pay him back four times as much." 9Looking at him Jesus said, "Salvation has come to this house today, for this man is also a true son of Abraham. 10The Son of Man has come to seek and to save the lost."

1. What did people say when they saw that Jesus visited Zaccheus' house?

Lesson 8 Jesus loves me

Jesus bless babies (Lk 18,15-17)

18 15They even brought babies to Jesus to have him touch them; but then the disciples rebuked these people. 16 So Jesus called the children to him and said, "Let the children come to me and don't stop them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. 17Truly, I tell you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child will not enter it."

'Talitha kumi' (Mk 5,38-43)

5 38When Jesus saw a great commotion with people weeping and wailing loudly. (Because the daughter of official of the synagogue dead.) 39Jesus entered and said to them, "Why all this commotion and weeping? The child is not dead but asleep."

40They laughed at him. But Jesus sent them outside and went with the child's father and mother and his companions into the room where the child lay. 41Taking her by the hand, he said to her, "Talitha kumi!" which means: "little girl, get up!"

42The girl got up at once and began to walk around. (She was twelve years old.) And they were astonished, greatly astonished. 43Jesus strictly ordered them not to let anyone know about it, and told them to give her something to eat.

The paralytic at the pool of Bethzatha (Jn 5,1-9)

5 1There was a feast of the Jews and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. 2Now, by the Sheep Gate in Jerusalem, there is a pool (called Bethzatha in Hebrew) surrounded by five galleries. 3In these galleries lay a multitude of sick people-blind, lame and paralyzed- 4waiting for the water to move. For at times an angel of the Lord would descend into the pool and stir up the water; and the first person to enter after this movement of the water would be healed of whatever disease he had.

5There was a man who had been sick for thirty-eight years. 6Jesus saw him, and since he knew how long this man had been lying there, he said to him, "Do you want to be healed?" 7And the sick man answered, "Sir, I have no one to put me into the pool when the water is disturbed; so while I am still on my way, another steps down before me."

8Jesus then said to him, "Stand up, take your mat and walk." 9And at once the man was healed, and he took up his mat and walked.

1. What did Jesus tell us to do in order to enter the kingdom of God?

2. Why did the people weep and wail loudly in the house of the official of the synagogue?

3. What is the meaning of 'Talitha kumi'?

4. What did Jesus tell the people to do when the girl got up?

5. How did the paralytic at the pool of Bethzatha think he could be healed?

6. How were the dead girl and the paralytic at the pool of Bethzatha healed?

- Let's discuss together. What did you think and feel when you hear the miracles of Jesus above? (Writing the results of discussion on the black board or paper and explain it)

1. Like the paralytic at the pool of Bethzatha, did you ever try to solve your problems by ignoring Jesus and going some other way?

2. What did Jesus teach us through these miracles?

Lesson 9 Let's listen to the word of Jesus

The Beatitudes (Mt 5,3-12)

5 3"Fortunate are those who have the spirit of the poor, for theirs is the kingdom of Heaven 4Fortunate are those who mourn, they shall be comforted. 5Fortunate are the gentle, they shall own the earth. 6Fortunate are those who hunger and thirst for justice, for they shall be satisfied. 7Fortunate are the merciful, for they shall find mercy. 8Fortunate are those with a pure heart, for they shall see God. 9Fortunate are those who work for peace, they shall be called children of God. 10Fortunate are those who are persecuted for the cause of justice, for theirs is the kingdom of Heaven.

11Fortunate are you, when people insult you and persecute you and speak all kinds of evil against you because you are my followers. 12Be glad and joyful, for a great reward is kept for you in God. This is how this people persecuted the prophets who lived before you."

Set your heart on the kingdom (Mt 6,25-34)

6 25This is why I tell you not to be worried about food and drink for yourself, or about clothes for your body. Is not life more important than food and is not the body more important than clothes? 26Look at the birds in the sky; they do not sow, they do not harvest and o not store food in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not worth much more than birds?

27Which of you can add a day to his life by worrying about it? 28Why are you so worried about your clothes? Look at the flowers in the fields how they grow. They do not toil or spin. 29But I tell you that not even Solomon in all his wealth was clothed like one of these. 30If God so clothes the grass in the field-which blooms today and is to be burned tomorrow in an oven, how much more will he clothe you? What little faith you have!

31Do not worry and say: What are we going to eat? What are we going to drink? Or: what shall we wear? 32The pagans busy themselves with such things; but your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. 33Set your heart first on the kingdom and justice of God and all these things will also be given to you. 34Do not worry about tomorrow for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own."

1. Why did Jesus say, "Fortunate are those who have the spirit of the poor, for theirs is the kingdom of Heaven?"

2. Why did Jesus say, "Fortunate are those who mourn, they shall be comforted?"

3. Why did Jesus say, "Fortunate are the gentle, they shall own the earth?"

4. Why did Jesus say, "Fortunate are those who hunger and thirst for justice, for they shall be satisfied?"

5. Why did Jesus say, "Fortunate are the merciful, for they shall find mercy?"

6. Why did Jesus say, "Fortunate are those with a pure heart, for they shall see God?"

7. Why did Jesus say, "Fortunate are those who work for peace, they shall be called children of God?"

8. Why did Jesus say, "Fortunate are those who are persecuted for the cause of justice, for theirs is the kingdom of Heaven?"

9. Why did Jesus say, "Fortunate are you, when people insult you and persecute you and speak all kinds of evil against you because you are my followers?"

10. What did you want to have among the above eight? And Why?

11. Did you ever experience any among the above eight? Let's talk to each other about it.

12. What did Jesus tell us to set our hearts on first?

¢À The following is a 'saving bankbook' of the kingdom of God.

- Write the things I do for others in the left side.

Write the things others do for me in the right side.

Let's compare between left and right, how much we save in a safe of the kingdom of God

Lesson 10 God's love

The prodigal son (Lk 15,11-32)

15 11Jesus continued, "There was a man with two sons. 12The younger said to his father: 'Give me my share of the estate.' So the father divided his property between his two sons.

13Some days later, the younger son gathered all his belongings and started off for a distant land where he squandered his wealth in loose living. 14Having spent everything, he was hard pressed when a severe famine broke out in that land. 15So he hired himself out to a well-to-do citizen of that place and was sent to work on a pig farm. 16So famished was he that he longed to fill his stomach even with pig's food, but no one offered him anything.

17Finally coming to his senses, he said: 'How many of my father's hired men have food to spare, and here I am starving to death! 18I will go back to my father and say to him: Father, I have sinned against God and before you. 19I no longer deserve to be called your son. Treat me then as one of your hired servants.' With that thought in mind he set off for his father's house.

20He was still a long way off when his father caught sight of him. His father was so deeply moved with compassion that he ran out to meet him, threw his arms around his neck and kissed him. 21The son said: 'Father, I have sinned against God and before you. I no longer deserve to be called your son¡¦'

22But the father turned to his servants: 'Quick? Bring out the finest robe and put it on him. Put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet. 23Take the fattened calf and kill it. We shall celebrate and have a feast, 24for this son of mine was dead and has come back to life. He was lost and is found.' And the celebration began.

25Meanwhile, the elder son who had been working in the fields was now on his way home. As he neared the house he heard the sound of music and dancing. 26He called one of the servants and asked what it was all about. 27The servant answered: 'Your brother has come home safe and sound, and your father is so happy about it that he has ordered this celebration and killed the fattened calf.'

28The elder son be came angry and refused to go in. His father came out and pleaded with him. 29The indignant son said: 'Look, I have slaved for you all these years, Never have I disobeyed your orders. Yet you have never given me even a young goat to celebrate with my friends. 30Then when this son of yours returns after squandering your property with loose women, you kill the fattened calf for him.'

31The father said: 'My son, you are always with me, and everything I have is yours. 32But this brother of yours was dead, and has come back to life. He was lost and is found. And for that we had to celebrate and rejoice.'"

1. What did the younger son ask of his father?

2. What did the father do after listening to the request of his younger son?

3. Did you ever have a feeling that you want to leave home and live alone and do as you pleased, like the younger son in this Gospel? When? What happened?

4. We will be far from God because of our bad acts. And then God will wait for us patiently like the father in this Gospel. Did you ever feel this love of God?

5. What did the father do after seeing the younger son's return?

6. The younger son wanted to live alone and do all as he pleased. But he could not live as he thought and planned. What is the reason?

7. What did the elder son do after seeing the father welcoming the younger son?

8. What did the father say to his elder son?

9. Did you ever have the feeling like the elder son? Let's share together.

(When my friend was praised, was I happy? Or unhappy like the elder son?)

10. We can realize God's love from the father in this Gospel. Listening to these words of Jesus, what do you think and feel about God?

Lesson 11 Jesus calls me

Twelves apostles (Mk 1,16-18; 3,13-19)

1 16As Jesus was walking along the shore of Lake Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew casting a net in the lake, for they were fishermen. 17And Jesus said to them,

"Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men."

18At once they left their nets and followed him.

3 13Then Jesus went up into the hill country and called those he wanted and they came to him; 14So he appointed twelve to be with him; he also wanted to send them out to preach. 15And he gave them authority to drive out demons.

16These are the Twelve; Simon, to whom he gave the name Peter; 17James, son of Zebedee, and John his brother, to whom he gave the name Boanerges, which means "men of thunder"; 18Andrew, Philip, Bartholomew, Matthew, Thomas, James son of Alpheus, Thaddeus, Simon th Cananean 19and Judas Scariot, the man who betrayed him.

Jesus washes his disciples' feet (Jn 13,4-8.12.15; Mt 20,26-28)

13 4Jesus got up from table, removed his garment and taking a towel, wrapped it around his waist. 5Then he poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples' feet and to wipe them with the towel eh was wearing.

6When he came to Simon Peter, Simon said to him, "Why, Lord, you want to wash my feet!" 7Jesus said, "What I am doing you cannot understand now, but afterwards you will understand it." 8Peter replied, "You shall never wash my feet." Jesus answered him, "If I don not wash you, you can have no part with me." 12When Jesus had finished washing their feet, he put on his garment again, went back to the table and said to them, "Do you understand what I have done to you? 15I have just given you an example that as I have done, you also may do."

20 26It shall not be so among you; whoever wants to be more important in your group shall make himself your servant. 27And whoever wants to be first must make himself the slave of all. 28Be like the Son of Man who has come, not to be served but to serve and to give his life to redeem many."

1. What is the meaning of 'the fishers of men'?

2. My Baptism is the sign of my belief in the love of Jesus and my will to be a disciple. So that sign is my response to Jesus' calling 'follow me!' Why did Jesus call the apostles?

1)

2)

3)

3. What will Jesus do, if we love Jesus and follow Him and His word?

4. Jesus washed the feet of the disciples. What did He do for me?

¢À Jesus forgives our faults because He loves us. Let's thank Jesus for calling us as a disciple of Him and inviting us to preach the Gospel to others. How can I give friends what Jesus gave me. Let's think what we can do and we should do for Jesus and promise to do it.

My promise :

¢À Let's go to Jesus. in front of the Blessed Sacrament.

After reading from 4th verse to 10th verse of chapter 13 of John's Gospel. Let's close our eyes and imagine the scene..

I am sitting on the chair with disciples.

Jesus is coming to me after washing the feet of the other disciples one by one .

Peter who is beside me says, "You shall never wash my feet"

Jesus answered him, "If I do not wash you, you can have no part with (nothing to do with) me."

Then Peter said, "Lord, wash not only my feet but also my hands and my head!"

Jesus replied, "Whoever has taken a bath does not need to wash (except the feet), for he is clean all over." And Jesus wash the Peter's feet.

Now my turn.

Jesus go down his knees at my feet and question to me,.

"Can I wash your feet?"

Answer! Tell Him!

Speak to Him just as you would if you met Him.

Jesus, who want to meet is just at my feet now.

Say whatever you want!

Maybe you cannot look straight at Jesus because you think of your sins and faults.

But don't worry, don't be ashamed and don't fear and tell Him all you want to say.

After you talk to Him, listen to what he has to say.

Listen well to the words Jesus says to me.

And ask like Peter,

"Lord, wash my feet!"

¢À After the prayer let's write 'the things I said to Jesus' and 'the words Jesus said to me'.

My words;

Jesus' words;

Lesson 12 Let's live in the Kingdom of God

The mustard seed (Mk 4,30-32)

4 30Jesus also said, "What is the kingdom of God like? To what shall we compare it?m 31It is like a mustard seed which, when sown, is the smallest of all the seeds scattered upon the soil. 32But once sown, it grows up and becomes the largest of the plants in the garden and even grows branches so big that the birds of the sky can take shelter in its shade."

1. What did Jesus say that the kingdom of God was like?

2. We forget Jesus easily in our daily lives. We often pass over much without paying attention just as we forget Jesus. What things do we easily forget to do?

3. Jesus also said, "Come to me, all of you who work hard and who carry heavy burdens and I will refresh you."(Mt 11,28) Who do ones live in the Kingdom of God? Let's share our thoughts with each other!

4. I cannot go alone into the kingdom of God. Who is the one that I want to go into the kingdom of God with me?

5. Who is the one that I do not want to go into the kingdom of God with me? And Why?

6. The word of Jesus can be like a small mustard seed which is easily forgotten and ignored. If we remember the word of Jesus and put it into practice we can go into the kingdom of God. Let's write the word of Jesus that I can put into practice now.

¢À We have learned about the love of Jesus and about the kingdom of God. Now, let's draw the kingdom of God.

Lesson 13 Let's pray like Jesus

Lord's Prayer (Mt 6,7-15)

6 7When you pray, do not use a lot of words, as the pagans do, for they hold that the more they say, the more chance they have of being heard. 8Do not be like them. Your Father knows what you need, even before you ask him.

9This, then, is how you should pray;

Our Father in Heaven,

holy be your name,

10your kingdom come,

your will be done

on earth as in heaven.

11Give us today our daily bread.

12Forgive us our debts

as we forgive those

who are in debt to us.

13Do not bring us to the test

but deliver us from the Evil One.

14If you forgive others their wrongs, your Father in Heaven will also forgive yours. 15If you do not forgive others, then your Father will not forgive you either.

1. Jesus said, "Your Father knows what you need, even before you ask him." So what is the name of prayer he taught us to pray?

2. Let's call "God!" or "Jesus!" What did you think of and feel as you called Him?

3. Did you ever pray to God thinking he was the only One who could help you? If so, when and why?

4. What is the will of God?

5. Jesus asked that 'Give us today our daily bread' for the hungry in the world. Is there anyone who is hungry among the people you know?

6. What did Jesus say we have to do if we want to be forgiven our wrongs by God our Father?

7. Temptation (test) tries to block us from loving Jesus and from living good lives. When do I easily fall into temptation? And what kind of test do I find difficult to overcome?

8. Although we don't want to, we sometimes sin thought habit without awareness of doing wrong. If we sin we fall into the control of the devil and are far from God. What are the wrongs that I do habitually which I want to change?

9. If the devil dominates me, I will be slow to reconcile and change although I want to reconcile and change. Did you ever experience this? When? Now? If now, how can I meet God again and live happily? Think about this and share your thoughts with your friends.

Lesson 14 Who is Jesus?

Miracle of the loaves (Lk 9,10-17)

9 10On the apostles return they told Jesus everything they had done. Then eh took them aside to a lonely place, and they went away to a town called Bethsaida to be by themselves. 11But the crowd heard of this and caught up with him. So he welcomed them and began speaking about the kingdom of God, curing those who needed healing

12The day was drawing to a close and the Twelve drew near to tell him, "Send the crowd away and let them go into the villages and farms around, to find lodging and food, for we are here in a lonely place." 13But Jesus replied, "You yourselves give them something to eat." They answered, "We have only five loaves and two fish; where can we get food and pay for it for so many people?" 14For there were about five thousand men. Then Jesus said to his disciples, "Make people sit down in groups of fifties."

15So they made all of them settle down. 16Jesus then took the five loaves and two fish, and raising his eyes to heaven, pronounced a blessing over them; he broke them and gave them to the disciples to distribute to the crowd. 17They ate and everyone had enough; and when they gathered up what was left, twelve baskets were filled with broken pieces

Peter's profession of faith (Lk 9,18-21)

9 18One day when Jesus was praying alone, not far from his disciples, he asked them, "What do peoples say about me?" 19And they answered, "Some say that you are John the Baptist; others say that you are Elijah, and still others that you are one of the former prophets risen from the dead" Agin Jesus asked them, 20"Who then do you say I am?" Peter answered, "The Messiah of God." 21Then Jesus spoke to them, giving them strict orders not to tell this to anyone.

Jesus predicts his death and resurrection firstly (Lk 9,22-26)

9 22And he added, "The Son of Man must suffer many things. He will be rejected by the elders and chief priests and teachers of the Law, and put to death. Then after three days he will be raised to life."

1. Jesus said, "You yourselves give them (the hungry) something to eat." Who are 'you' in this gospel and now?

2. The disciples' five loaves and two fish was made, through Jesus, power as much as people could eat. When they gathered up what was left, twelve baskets (for twelve tribes) were filled with the left-over pieces. What are the things among our possession that we will share with the family and friends and neighbors?

3. People wanted to make Jesus a King when they saw the miracle. They thought if Jesus will be a King they will be saved from domination of Rome and have easy lives. They thought Jesus would be their savior. Who did Peter say Jesus was?

4. What is the meaning of 'Christ'?

5. Why did the people who wanted to kill Jesus not believe He was the savior, the Son of God, although He could do miracles like this?

6. Why did Jesus have to suffer and die although he has no sin?

¢À We will become 'a little christ' when we are baptized and receive the Holy Spirit like Jesus. What should I do as a little christ? Fill in the space below and try and practice what you have written.

Lesson 15 Jesus saves me

The Passover (Ex 12,21-27) - 'Paschal'

12 21"Select and take one animal for each family and slaughter the Passover lamb. 22Take a twig of hyssop dipped in its blood and sprinkle the blood on the doorposts and the top of the doorframe. Then he will pass over the door and not allow the destroyer to enter your houses and kill (your firstborn)."

The Lord's supper and the Eucharist (1Cor 11,23-26)

11 23This is the tradition of the Lord that I received and that in my turn I have handed on to you; the Lord Jesus, on the night that he was delivered up, took bread and 24after giving thanks, broke it, saying, "This is my body which is broken for you; do this in memory of me." 25In the same manner, taking the cu after the supper, he said, "This cup is the new Covenant in my blood. Whenever you drink it, do it in memory of me."

26So, then, whenever you eat of this bread and drink from this cup, you are proclaiming the death of the Lord until he comes.

The Sacrifice on the Cross (Lk 23,34. 46-47)

23 34Jesus said, "Father, forgive them for they do not know what they do." 46Then Jesus gave a loud cry, "Father, into your hands, I commend my spirit."(ps 31,5) And saying that, he gave up his spirit. 47The captain saw what had happened, and acknowledged the hand of God. He said, "Surely this was an upright man."

Nowadays also Jesus does The Sacrifice on Cross again and again through the Eucharist of Mass. As He give us 'the food of the Live'(the Holy body and the Holy blood), He forgive our sins and be borning again us.. And as the Communion(receiving the Holy Body), we unite with Jesus and believers so that we can live the gospel in the world.

Mass

"TAKE THIS, ALL OF YOU, AND EAT IT: THIS IS MY BODY WHICH WILL BE GIVEN UP FOR YOU."

"TAKE THIS, ALL OF YOU, AND DRINK FROM IT: THIS IS THE CUP OF MY BLOOD, THE BLOOD OF THE NEW AND EVERLASTING COVENANT. IT WILL BE SHED FOR YOU AND FOR ALL MEN SO THAT SINS MAY BE FORGIVEN. DO THIS IN MEMORY OF ME."

1. What is the name of the event in which the destroyer passed over and did not to kill Israel's firstborn?

2. What did Jesus give the disciples in 'the Last Supper'?

3. In 12th and 13th verse in 15th chapter of the Gospel according to John, Jesus said, "This is my commandment: ( ) one another as I have ( ) you. There is no greater ( ) than this, to give one's life for his friends." after last supper. What is the word in ( )?

4. What does the bread become after it is blessed?

5. What does the wine become after it is blessed?

6. When did Jesus institute the Eucharist?

7. Write the words that Jesus said as he was crucified.?(Lk 23,34.46-47)

8. What is the gift that Jesus gave us through his death on the cross?

9. Who celebrates the Mass? Who is it offered to? What is offered?

¢À The King of the Monkeys

Long long ago, there was a country of monkeys. Monkeys built their houses on trees here and there. And father and mother monkeys and children monkeys were living happily.

One day, it was the birthday of the king of monkeys. So all the families of the monkeys came out of their houses and came to a big tree in the midst of the forest for a party.

The father monkeys were playing basketball and other games, the mother monkeys were making food, the children monkeys were holding hands with each other and were singing songs and were playing a flute.

After playing joyfully for a while, a guard monkey suddenly shouted form the boundary tree,

"Yah-Yah-Yah-Yah, Yah-Yah-Yah-Yah! A hunter is coming!"

"Yah-Yah-Yah-Yah, Yah-Yah-Yah-Yah! A hunter is coming!"

The monkeys were all surprised and were climbing hurry-scurry up the tree. Then the monkeys tried to jump across from the branch of one tree to the top branch. of the king's tree; but they could not reach it. So they were restless because they could not come down from there. It was big crisis. The hunter was coming near and nearer.

At that time, the king monkey went forward and shouted,

"Get out of the way, I will try to cross!"

and he stretched his arm, holding onto the branch just with his feet,

"Yah!"

when the king monkey caught the other branch, he shouted to the others,

"Walk over me! Hurry up! Hurry up!"

Therefore the monkeys walked over the king monkey from one side to the tree on the other side. The king monkey was dripping with sweat and has grasped the branch as tight as he could, until all the monkeys gone over. When they were all over, he was tired and all his strength was gone. The monkeys shouted,

"King, King, come over hurry up! It's your chance!"

"Yes, Y¡¦e¡¦s! Y¡¦¡¦e¡¦¡¦s¡¦!?¡¦!¡¦?¡¦¡¦! ¡¦¡¦?"

after seeing that all the monkeys got over to the next tree, the king had little strength left and lost the power of his feet; and he fell down to the ground.

The hunter saw this and muttered to himself,

"Truly, this monkey was the king"

¢À Jesus said, "Whenever you eat my body and drink my blood, do it in memory of me."

Then what will you do after you will meet Jesus and eat His body? Draw Jesus on the Cross, and write or draw on the altar below what I will do for Him. (presents, sacrifices, prayers)

Lesson 16 Jesus is risen

Jesus appears to the women (Mt 28,1-10)

28 1After the sabbath, at the appearance of the first star, on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to visit the tomb. 2Suddenly there was a violent earthquake: the Angel of the Lord came down from heaven, went to the tomb and rolled away the stone from the entrance of the tomb and sat on it. 3His face was like lightning and his garment white as snow. 4The guards trembled in fear and became like dead men when they saw the Angel.

5The Angel said to the women, "Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus who was crucified. 6He is not here, for he is risen as he said. Come, see the place where they laid him. 7Now go at once and tell his disciples that he is risen from the dead and is going ahead of you to Galilee. You will see him there. This is my message for you."

8They left the tomb at once in holy fear, yet with great joy, and they ran to tell the news to the disciples.

9Then, Jesus met them on the way and said, "Peace." The women approached him, embraced his feet and worshiped him. 10Jesus immediately told them, "Do not be afraid. Go tell my brothers to go to Galilee: there they will see me."

Jesus sends the apostles (Mt 28,16.18-20)

28 16As for the Eleven disciples, they went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. 17When they saw Jesus, they bowed before him, although some doubted.

18Then Jesus approached them and said, "I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. 19Therefore, go and make disciples from all nations. Baptize them in the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20and teach them to fulfill all I have commanded you. I am with you always until the end of this world."

Jesus taken up to heaven (Acts 1,8-11)

1 8"You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, throughout Judea and Samaria, even to the ends of the earth."

9As soon as Jesus said this, he was takes up before their eyes and a cloud hid him from their sight. 10While they were still looking up to heaven where he went, suddenly, two men dressed in white stood beside them 11and said, "Men of Galilee, why do you stand here looking up at the sky? This Jesus who has been taken from you into heaven, will return in the same way as you have seen him go there."

Lesson 17 When the Holy Spirit comes upon us

The coming of the Holy Spirit (Acts 2,1-13.36.41-42)

2 1When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. 2And suddenly out of the sky came a sound like a strong rushing wind and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. There appeared 3tongues as if of fire which parted and came to rest upon each one of them. 4All were filled with Holy Spirit and began to speak other languages, as the Spirit enabled them to speak.

6When they heard this sound, a crowd gathered, all excited because each heard them speaking in his own language.

36Then Peter stood up with the Eleven and with a loud voice, addressed them, "Let Israel then know for sure that God has made Lord and Christ this Jesus whom you crucified."

41So those who accepted his word were baptized; some three thousand were added to their number that day. 42They were faithful to the teaching of the apostles, the common life of sharing, the breaking of bread and the prayers.

The first community (Acts 2,43-47)

2 43A holy fear came upon all the people, for many wonders and miraculous signs were done by the apostles. 44Now all the believers lived together and shared all their belongings 45They would sell their property and all they had and distribute the proceeds to others according to their need. 46Each day they met together in the Temple area; they broke bread in their homes; they shared their food with great joy and simplicity of heart; 47they praised God and won the people's favor. And every day the Lord added to their number those who were being saved.

Lesson 18 God, Trinity

The mercy of Yahweh for the people (Ex 34,6-8)

34 6"Yahweh, Yahweh is a God full of pity and mercy, slow to anger and abounding in truth and loving-kindness. 7He shows loving-kindness to the thousandth generation and forgives wickedness, rebellion and sin; yet he does not leave the guilty without punishment, even punishing the children and their children for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth generation."

God's only Son, Jesus saves us (Jn 3,16-18; 14,6.11.14)

3 16Yes, God so loved the world that he gave his only Son that whoever believes in him may not be lost, but may have eternal life. 17God did not send the Son into the world to condemn the world; instead, through him the world is to be saved. 18Whoever believes in him will not be condemned. He who does not believe is already condemned, because he has not believed in the Name of the only Son of God.

14 6Jesus said, "I am the way, (the truth and the life); no one comes to the Father but through me."¡¦ 11Believe me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father in me; at least believe it on the evidence of these works that I do. 14And everything you ask in calling upon my Name, I will do.

Holy Spirit makes us as children of God (Rm 8,14-16)

8 14It is those who walk in the Spirit of God who are children of God.

15Then, no more fear: you did not receive a spirit of slavery, but the Spirit that makes you adopted children and every time we cry, "Abba! Father!" 16the Spirit assures our spirit that we are children of God.

13 13The grace of Christ Jesus the Lord, the love of God and the (uniting) fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all. (2Cor 13,13)

1. How many Gods are there?

2. What is the name of the 'Father'?

3. What does the Father give us?

4. What is the name of the 'Son'?

5. Why did the Son come to the world?

6. 'The Holy Spirit' makes us the ( ) of God. Write a suitable word in ( ) above?

7. God, Trinity (the Father, the Son, the Holy Spirit) always talk to each other and share all their belongings with each other; and so unite in One. Did you unite with friends in your First Communion class by sharing your thoughts and your activities with each other? Is there anything you still did not share with your friend?

8. The Father always see the Son and the Son always see the Father also. As the two see each other as a heart of ( ) like this so the ( ) overflows like a river.

The ( ) overflows like a river is the ( ) who makes the Father and the Son unite in One. What is the suitable word in ( )?

9. The sign of cross, "In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen." is the meaning of that we do all by the name of ( ) and of ( ) and of ( ), and ask that our hope be realized by the will of ( ) and of ( ) and of ( ). Let's pray this prayer and live with our God, Father, Son and Spirit always.

¢À Let's remember the doctrine of God, Trinity Father, Son and Spirit and print the candle of my friend beside me; and so light a love of the Lord and of mine in my friend's heart.

Lesson 19 Let's meet Jesus

Seeing the Cross we can realize how much Jesus loves us! The Cross is the sign or symbol of God's love. Sacrament is the sign that we can see the love of God that is unseen.

As we can acknowledge God through the words and acts of Jesus, so Jesus is the (original) Sacrament of God.

And as Jesus through the Church, so Church is the Sacrament of Jesus.

The church is seen Jesus' love through the seven Sacraments to men in the world.

1. The twelve disciples came to know God through Jesus because they lived with Him. And after Jesus ascended, they taught Him to other people by their words and by their lives. Where and by whom can we know Jesus today?

2. What is 'a Sacrament'?

3. What is 'a Sacramentals'?

4. Let's match the sacraments on the left with the scripture quotes on the right by joining ¢À with lines.

Baptism ¢À ¢À For those whose sins you forgive, they are forgiven; for those whose sins you retain, they are retained. (Jn 20,23)

The Eucharist ¢À ¢À Feed my lambs. (Jn 21,15)

5. The Church shows Jesus to people. So the Church is called the Sacrament of Jesus. The Church is not only the building. The meeting of the believers is the Church. Then how can we show Jesus? (Reading 'the potato of Hankook', let's see Jesus. living among us. And although we cannot see Jesus completely, we search for other ways to show Jesus by our living.)

¢À The Potato of Hankook

Hankook attended Mass every morning. It is a great joy for Hankook to go to meet Jesus. When he attended Mass in the morning, he was glad and peaceful all day long. There was a man whom he met on the way to Church early every morning. He was a street cleaner who swept the road during the night and by doing so got dirty. Everyday when Hankook met him he said, "Good morning! How are you today?" as if meeting Jesus.

One day, he asked Hankook,

"Hey! Where do you go at this time everyday?"

"I go to Church to meet Jesus."

"Did you ever see Jesus?"

"No!"

"How can you believe Jesus though you cannot see Him?"

"Well, would you believe if you could see Him?"

"Of course, I would believe if I could see Jesus with my own eyes. Can you show me Jesus?"

"Well. If I show you Jesus do you promise to come to Church?"

"Yes, sure!"

When making the promise Hankook answered with pride and conviction. But he was anxious, "How can I show him Jesus?" And so, he prayed during the Mass and came home. Suddenly he saw that a potato which his mother bought last winter pushed out new shoots in a cup. He shouted with joy, 'Ah! That's it!' Next morning, Hankook took it went to Church; he met the street cleaner and said to him,

"Here you are! Here is Jesus!"

and give him the potato. The man looked at the potato and at Hankook; and said,

"Hey, this is a potato. Where is Jesus?"

"Yes, that is a potato. Look, Uncle! I saw this potato in the winter before pushing out new shoots. and it seemed dead. Then, when I see these green and pretty new shoots, I know this potato has been alive all along and can push out new life. Therefore though you can not see Jesus with your eyes now, it does not mean Jesus is not there. Like the new shoots of this potato. Jesus is waiting for the spring of your heart when you will open your mind to His presence."

Lesson 20 Jesus, please look upon us

The Good Samaritan (Lk 10,25-37)

10 25Then a teacher of the Law came and began putting Jesus to the test. And he said, "Master, what shall I do to receive eternal life?" 26Jesus replied, "What is written in the Scripture? How do you understand it?" 27The man answered, "It is written: You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength and with all your mind. And you shall love your neighbor as yourself." 28Jesus replied, "What a good answer! Do this and you shall live." 29The man wanted to keep up appearances, so he replied., "Who is my neighbor?" 30Jesus then said, "There was a man going own from Jerusalem to Jericho, and he fell into the hands of robbers. They stripped him, beat him and went off leaving him half dead.

31It happened that a priest was going along that road and saw the man, but passed by on the other side. 32Likewise a Levite saw the man and passed by on the other side. 33But a Samaritan, too, was going along that road, and when he came upon the man, he was moved with compassion. 34He went over to him and treated his wounds with oil and wine and wrapped them with bandages. Then he put him on his own animal and brought him to an inn where he took care of him.

35The next day he had to set off, but he gave two silver coins to the innkeeper and told him: 'Take care of him and whatever you spend on him, I will repay when I come back.'"

36Jesus then asked, "Which of these three, do you think, made himself neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of robbers?" 37The teacher of the Law answered, "The one who had mercy on him." And Jesus said, "Go then and do the same."

1. Who saved the man who fell into the hands of robbers?

2. What did he feel for the man who fell into the hands of robbers when he saw him?

3. What did he do for the man who fell into the hands of robbers?

4. What did the priest or the Levite do for the man who fell into the hands of robbers when they saw him?

5. How did the teacher answer the question of who was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of robbers?

6. Is there anyone who showed me love? Who? When?

7. Did I ever see anyone who needed my help and my love, and then pass by on the other side? When? Who?

8. Nowadays, is there anyone who needs my help and my love around me? Who are they? Why do they need my help or my love?

9. How can I show this person my love?

Lesson 21 Jesus, I love you!

Contemplative Prayer

Let's meet Jesus who we have learned about and have come to know. Now let's go together to the chapel and pray to Jesus and meet Jesus who loves us.

¢À Let's dip our ringer the Holy Water and do the sign of cross; pray,

"In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen."

Do you want to meet Jesus?

Then sitting down calmly, ask Jesus to come into my mind and my heart.

Let's read together the prayer below in a quiet voice from the bottom of your heart saying you want Jesus to come to you.

Jesus, I love you!

Jesus, I thank you that I can live in this world you created.

Jesus, I thank you that I can live with parents and brothers and sisters and neighbors.

Jesus, I thank you that I can live with friends, air and water and etc, of nature in this world

Jesus, I love you!

Jesus, I thank you for always being with me.

Jesus, I thank you for always coming whenever I call you.

Jesus, I thank you for giving me the chance to receive my First Holy Communion.

Jesus, I want to know you.

Jesus, show yourself to us.

Jesus, I want to meet and talk and play joyfully with you.

Jesus, I love you!

Jesus, I am sorry I always make you lonely waiting for me.

Jesus, from now on I will remember you and come to you.

Jesus, please welcome me whenever I come to you.

Jesus, I love you!

Jesus, are you sad and unhappy when I do something wrong?

Jesus, from now on I will listen to your word and carry it out well.

Jesus, I thank you for forgiving all my sins and wrongs.

Jesus, I will forgive all those who trespass against me.

Jesus, I will remember and live according to your command, "Love each other."

Jesus, send me your Holy Spirit and help me to practice your word bravely.

Jesus, I love you!

Jesus, I want always to live feeling your love.

Jesus, I want to receive and live with your joy and happiness.

Jesus, I thank you giving me the chance to receive you in my First Holy Communion.

Jesus, I want always to be with you.

Jesus, come upon me!

Jesus, come upon my mind; and be with me.

Mary, I thank you!

Mary, be my mother also?

Mother, please lead me to Jesus.

Mother, please help me to meet Jesus.

Mother, please pray for me to Jesus.

Mother, I love you also.

¢À Listen! Now, close your eyes calmly; and let's imagine Jesus coming to me.

Jesus is coming into your mind more and more with deep love.

In your mind, say to Jesus, "Jesus, I love you! Jesus come to me!"

Now, Jesus is standing just in front of me.

Greet Jesus.

Talk to Jesus say whatever you want to tell Him; and listen to Him and share with Him

Now, bow your head with a humble bow to Jesus; and ask Him.,

"Please, bless me!"

Feel Jesus put his two hands on my head and bless me.

Don't stop though you feel Jesus; pray and say constantly "Jesus, I love you! Jesus come to me!"

Now, hug Jesus as he holds me in his arms for a longtime.

¢À Sit and pray in front of the Holy Body (the Blessing Sacrament) for 15-20 minutes; write down the contents of your prayers and the your feelings.

Lesson 22 If you want to unite with Jesus

The diary of Hansoli

July 15. 1992 Wednesday Clear

Because of a dispute last Sunday with Paul I am still not in good humour. So I do not want to see him or meet him. And whenever I think of him my mind is not easy. Whenever I pray, he comes into my mind and it bothers my conscience. Because I was ashamed to meet Jesus. I did not go to Church or pray this Sunday. I am in bad humour and there is no joy for me in life.

The day before yesterday, I made a resolution 'to reconcile' with him as soon as possible but when I met him yesterday we disagreed again. I visited firstly to reconcile with so and so¡¦. But because I was resentful and was upset. I gave up and said to him, "I don't want to play with you anymore." This morning, I thought if I do not see Paul I will be glad and have peace of mind. But it was the same.-No!-It was worse!

So, I went to church as soon as finishing the class; and asked a priest. "What shall I do?" The priest said to me, "A reconciliation is a grace of Jesus. Therefore firstly you should go into a chapel and sit in front of Jesus and imagine your friend and say in your mind, 'I forgive you. please forgive me also.' And pray to Jesus, 'Please give me a grace for reconciliation!'"

As I went out after praying in the Church, I met Paul accidently; and strangely could be reconciled with him easily. I went to confession. So, the priest forgave me in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. I felt very good as if I could fly like a bird in the sky. I could pray better than before. And I felt at peace and happy.

"Today, I realize that Confession is the Sacrament of Reconciliation. And Jesus is merciful. Whenever I call Jesus, He always answers and visits me and forgives me; He is full of love! As Jesus forgave my sin, I felt free again!"

"Jesus, I thank you! I am born again by your grace. Because of reconciling with Paul, I am happy and I thank you, Jesus forgive me. I will not trespass against You and friends again, I will become the Hansoli who is full of your love. Amen. Jesus, I will go to bed now."

"Good night. See you tomorrow morning."

5) Penance : Renew yourself completely by offering a little penance

because Jesus forgives my sins by His death on

the cross.

1) Preparing heart : If you have sins or failed to love others, reconcile with Jesus by celebrating Confession. And from the deepest part of your heart, pray, "Please come to me Jesus!" This is a prayer asking Jesus who is my Lord and loves me "to come to me and unite with me and give me joy and happiness and give me the power for carrying out His Word."

2) Preparing Body : Wash body clearly and wear clean clothes.

Eat nothing from one hour before Communion.

Of course, you can drink water or take medicine.

2. Practice for Communion

Please come forward in two lines with your hands joined in prayer.

While the person in front receives Holy Communion bow to Jesus then come forward and receive the Holy Body holding your left hand above your right hand.

After receiving the Holy Body, go two steps to the side, eat (unite) the Holy Body.

Lesson 24 Let's be reconciled with Jesus

Before celebrating Confession, we together think about with way we should be reconciled with Jesus through reflecting on the Ten Commandments of God. To unite with Jesus, we must know Jesus and the will of Jesus. And so let's live joyful and happy again in Jesus' love by reflecting on ourselves.

1. I, the Lord, am your God. You shall not have other gods besides me.

1) Idolatry : Thinking that anything is more important than loving and following Jesus and His will. eg, missing the Sunday Mass and Sunday Church school; failing to read the Bible and not praying.

¢À for example (eg) - watching the cartoon in TV and playing computer games instead of doing good or praying.

2) Think oneself more important than God and His commandments.

¢À eg - If I hate the person just because he disagrees with me. Doing what I want rather than what God wants.

2. You shall not take the name of the Lord, your God, in vain.

Using the name or God in an oath or promise when I am telling a lie.

¢À eg - "If I tell a lie, I oath ¡¦¡¦¡¦¡¦ by the name of God."

3. Remember to keep holy the Lord's day.

Lord's day (Sunday) is the day of remembering God. We thank God on this day for helping us to live well during last week; and celebrate the Mass and pray to God to help us live joyful and good lives in the coming week.

This day is also for rest.

We should visit and greet and help our grandparents and parents and neighbors and poor friends.

4. Honor your father and your mother.

My parents give me the word of God. And they feed me in God's place. Therefore I, a son/daughter of God, should respect my parents, who represent God, and I should love and listen carefully to what they say to me.

5. You shall not kill.

God made man. And man was made in the image of God. Therefore I should love adults and friends. If I hate and speak against anyone, it will be the same as hating and speaking against God. Though someone thinks differently or disagrees with me, I should not hate and ignore and speak against them, I should respect them. And do not help neighbors is the same as pretending not to know God.

6. You shall not commit adultery.

Don't be angry because my friend likes someone else more than me. Let's love each other. And in future when I will marry, I should know that God asks me to be faithful to my wife or husband.

7. You shall not steal.

God gives us a freedom and gives us things which are necessary for us. Then If anyone takes a possession of another without telling him or does not give him what is his. It is the same as ignoring and snatching the freedom and love of God.

8. You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.

Do not damage anyone by telling a lie for my own benefits or protection. Do not blame someone else for what is my fault.

9. 10. You shall not convert your neighbor's wife. and anything that belongs to your neighbor.

Even though I have difficulties I should thank God and I should respect and love my grandfather or grandmother or parents or brothers and sisters who live with me and friends and neighbors. Remember all I really need is the blessing and love of God. I should not want what other people have. I should be happy with and thank God for the relation, friends and things that I have already. "God, please care and love my father and my mother!"

"Rejoice always, pray without ceasing and give thanks to God at ever moment. This is the will of God, your vocation as Christians." (1The 5,16-18)

LITURGY OF THE WORD

READING : Let what was seen in Christ Jesus be seen in you. (Ph 2,1-11)

2 1If I may advise you in the name of Christ and if you can hear it as the voice of love; if we share the same spirit and are capable of mercy and compassion, then I beg of you 2make me very happy: have one love, one spirit, one feeling. 3 do nothing through rivalry or vain conceit. On the contrary let each of you gently consider the others as more important than yourselves. 4Do not seek your own interest, but rather that of others. 5Let what was seen in Christ Jesus be seen in you: 6Though being divine in nature, he did not claim in fact equality with God, 7but emptied himself, taking on the nature of a servant, made in human likeness, and in his appearance found as a man. 8He humbled himself by being obedient to death, death on the cross 9That is why God exalted him and gave him the Name which outshines all names, 10so that at the Name of Jesus all knees should bend in heaven, on earth and among the dead, 11and all tongues proclaim that Christ Jesus is the Lord to the glory of God the Father.

¡Û This is the word of the Lord.

In their name, in the Spirit of our common sonship, let us pray together in the words our Lord has given us:

¢Á Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be the name; Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.

¢Á Amen

¢Ó God is the giver of all life, human and divine. May he bless the fathers of these children. With their wives they will be the first teachers of their children in the ways of faith. ¢Á Amen

¢Ó By God's gift, through water and the Holy Spirit, we are reborn to everlasting life. In his goodness, may he continue to pour out his blessings upon all present, who are his sons and daughters. May he make them always, wherever they may be, faithful members of his holy people. May he send his peace upon all who are gathered here, in Christ Jesus our Lord.

5. Reading - Jn 15,11-17

15 11"I have told you all this, that my own joy may be in you and your joy may be complete. 12This is my commandment: love one another as I have loved you. 13There is no greater love than this, to give one's life for his friends; 14and you are my friends if you do what I command you.

15I shall not call you servants any more, because a servant does not know what his master is about. Instead I call you friends, since I have made known to you everything I learned from my Father.

16 You did not choose me; it was I who chose you and sent you to go and bear much fruit, fruit that will last. And everything you ask the Father in my name, he will give you.

The blood of Catherine

One day, Peter and Catherine went to play. They had played gladly and joyfully. They saw Elephants and Lions and Peacocks; and rode on a monorail; and ate cookies and several kinds of ice cream in the children park.

And then later, when Catherine delayed to drink a cup of water on the street, the elder brother Peter started to walk across the street. Suddenly a car came quickly and ran over him.

The ambulance came and took him to hospital. Peter had lost a lot of blood, so a doctor asked Catherine,

"Can you give your blood for your elder brother?"

She answer,

"Yes."

Because their parents were not at the hospital, there was no one who had the same blood as Peter except Catherine.

Catherine thought if 'I give my blood to him I will die.'; and was afraid. But she thought that she should help her elder brother, Peter to live. So she gave her blood to her brother. The parents came to hospital while she was giving her blood. Her parents praised and encouraged her. But she was sad.

After the doctor operated on Peter, he told her and their parents,

"Peter is fine."

Catherine questioned the doctor,

"When will I die?"

The doctor answered,

"Die? You? Why will you die?"

Catherine replied,

"I gave my blood so now I will die, won't I?"

Her parents asked,

"Did you give your blood even though you thought you would die?"

¢À Questions for group discussion

- Let's share after hearing the story of 'The Blood of Catherine'

1. Who was run over by a car?

2. Who gave the blood?

3. What did the child think would happen after giving the blood?

4. Why did the child give the blood?

5. Let's share about if I or anyone I know showed this kind of love?

6. What did Jesus say about an act like this child's? Let's seek the word of Jesus in Bible.

Jesus, I love you!

¢À After finishing this prayer, pray to God-the Trinity-Father, Son and Spirit and Holy Mary and your patron saint.

"God, our Father, _________________________________________________!"

"Jesus, Our Lord, _________________________________________________!"

"The spirit of God, Holy Spirit, _______________________________________!"

HOW TO RECITE THE ROSARY

THE ROSARY

The rosary is a series of prayers in honour of our Lord and the blessed Virgin Mary. The whole rosary is composed of fifteen decades. A decade consists of: 'The Lord's Prayer', ten 'Hail Mary's and 'the Glory be to the Father'.

The rosary consists of five decades of beads, as it is a common practice to recite five decades at a time, while meditating on either the five 'joyful', 'sorrowful' or 'glorious' mysteries in the life of our Lord and the blessed Virgin Mary.

It is customary to commence the rosary by saying 'The Apostles' Creed', 'The Lord's Prayer', three 'Hail Mary's and 'the glory be to the Father'.

The 'Hail, Holy Queen' is usually said after the five decades are completed.

The Rosary

¢Ó The Sign of the Cross

The Apostles' Creed.

The Lord's Prayer on the large beads.

The Hail Mary on the small beads.

The Glory be to the Father, at the end of each decade.

At the end of the five decades the 'Hail, Holy Queen' is usually said.

2 THE SCOURGING AT THE PILLAR

Pilate then had Jesus taken away and scourged. (Jn 19,1)

On her head a crown of twelve stars. (Revelation 12,1)

To you do we send up our sighs mourning and weeping in this vale of tears. Turn then, most gracious advocate, your eyes of mercy towards us, and after this our exile, show unto us the blessed fruit of your womb, Jesus. O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary.

V) Pray for us, O holy Mother of God.

R) That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

Let us pray

O God, whose only-begotten Son, by his life, death and resurrection, has purchased for us the rewards of eternal life; grant we beseech you, that meditating upon these mysteries in the most holy Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary, we may both imitate what they contain, and obtain what they promise.
